Am I happy ?

It’s almost the end of the year. I’ve been wondering lately : am I happy ? is this what I wanna do ? is there something I’d like to change in my life ?

Am I happy ?

It’s true that I complain quite often about this and that. But as some might say : happy is the one with only little worries. Happy ? I guess I am then. I must be the luckiest man on this planet ! I have a wonderful girlfriend, I live in a nice country, I have the job I wanted to have, I keep learning every day, I have time for sport, I can spent many hours on my computer to play or to code, I’m healthy (no serious disease), I can buy some presents for Christmas, and perhaps receive some, etc.

Is this what I wanna do ?

So far so good I’d say. Like I said, I have a good job. I wanted to code, I code. Working conditions are good and salary is ok. Colleagues are nice too. It is busy sometimes, but also with periods with (almost) nothing to do. This gives me some time to code for myself, and learn new things. As long as it is like this, why should I change ? I also have plenty small projects that I like to do, and whenever I don’t feel like doing one for a while, I “pause” it and “resume” it later.
There are a few things I’d like to do before I start a family and everything. I can’t tell you now, but let’s say … it’s a big dream, and I need about two years to prepare it.

Is there something I’d like to change in my life ?

Not much … Perhaps a bit bigger apartment would help keep our stuff tidier ? I’d love it with an extra room for guests and IT stuff. So that I could keep a computer running 24/7 without having to bear the noise. For now, even with a lot of work silencing the PC, it still does too much noise for me to keep it running all night. Also, if it could be in an area with better connection to the city center and less road noise around, it’d be perfect. I know I’m asking a lot, but if something needs to be changed, that’s the only thing I can think of.

I don’t write this to show off or something. But this blog is also for me a place where I can say things for myself, like in a journal. Today, I needed to make a sort of review of my life, before I go any further. I don’t do this often, but usually when I’m having tough times, unhappy moments, depressing days and so on. I thought it was important to notice also when I’m happy.
Good night !

Suomen Itsenäisyyspäivä

It was on the 6th of December, and it was a day off. But this year, while others were enjoying a rest and some warm Glöggi perhaps, I was doing overtime and drinking strong coffee … Too much work these two past week !
Luckily it is Friday evening, and I finished all that work … Plans were so that I might have had to work also on Saturday !

I also finished my Finnish course last Thursday, and we had a test … It was quite tough, at least to my friends and me. It’s been 3 months of it, so it feels quite weird when it ends. I plan to go to the next level (fortunately, passing the exam isn’t actually required, but strongly advised), and that’s it. That’ll be level 3, and I think it’ll be enough rules to help me progress with my vocabulary on the go. I must admit the course went fast, too fast for me, but it was quite good, and I learnt a lot. I will probably have to practice more in the meanwhile, since it is what I’m missing the most (together with vocabulary), to understand and remember what I learnt so far.

My projects so far on this site, are to improve the WebCounter setting page, making the “tour” pages and the doc. Yeah, the boring part. I’ll keep you informed :)

Nothing to do with the rest, but I’d like to mention that there is a new TV channel called France24, with broadcasts in French, English,  and soon in Arabic. Website is already available in the three languages.

That’s it for today, bye !

Akismet mod for Khrys WebCounter

I made it ! or at least it looks like it’s working …
I’ve edited the Akismet WordPress plug-in (remember ? Akismet prevents spammers from leaving stupid comments on your WordPress powered blog) so that it calls a page of mine and update this list of spam IPs I keep for each WebCounter user. It is quite transparent. When I tried it, I had this (sadly) familiar list of blocked spams on the Akismet plug-in page, and (as usual) clicked on “Delete All”. I then check my own spam IP list on the WebCounter page, and saw an addition of few lines there, as a result.
I haven’t checked yet how things go when people don’t use the “Delete All” button, and spams are deleted automatically after 2 weeks, but I’m quite confident.
I will see later if I can make a more direct way. It would help resolve another one of my issues, but I fear it might put a big load on their server. At least, we have a working tool now :)

Iraq: Dujail Trial Fundamentally Flawed Human Rights Watch, 20-11-2006

It seems that I was not the only one thinking that this trial was unfair (to say it politely) ; Human Right Watch has made a 97 pages report to document all the mistakes and unfairness of Saddam Hussein’s trial over the Dujail massacre. Not that Sadam shouldn’t be condemned, but at least give him a decent trial ! How could Iraqi have faith in such a fake justice ? How do you expect to have them believe in the benefits of democracy ?

You’ll find the HRW article here :
