– cleaning up the code,
– writing it better,
– deploying variables for styles settings (in a CSS fashion).
Of course it doesn’t show so much from the outside, but the code has been improved. Accessorily, I had to learn some CSS.
I also wrote all the essential features of the registration pages. They use a captcha and a confirmation email (I have learnt a lot this week). Again, it doesn’t show, but it was a lot of work. Now I need to make those pages nicer, and perhaps to put some content ?
Still to do :
– update doc on my ‘programmation/webcounter’ page,
– update zip file on the same page,
– making registration pages nicer,
– making a page for the user to choose his style settings.
Damn ! a lot of work, still !
Edit : doc and zip file updated. I forgot, but there is a lot of code rewriting involved in checking username to access their stats. Also, when stats start to be big, it comes quite slow because … I didn’t write the requests to the IP to country table in a nice fashion … I need to do that too !

– changing IP to Country database for a more complete one (African and Pacific countries now recognized more efficiently),
– listing unknown and anonymous separately (were all considered unknown or put to USA by accident), and at the end of the country list.
Enjoy !
Edit: I just noticed that IE users seem to have a funny display of the tool … I’m working on it ! (but, if I can suggest … go for Mozilla !)
Edit2: It should work alright now, even with IE !

As you might have noticed lately, there is a counter on the left hand side column of this page, and if it looks a bit like Neoworx counter, it is actually mine. The thing is that I tried their stuff last month, but was quite frustrated when the evaluation period finished, with just a useless tool displaying info about online users … And it didn’t look that hard to do, so I started to do it myself. I’m now on version 0.5, and hope to get a 1.0 version one, directly useable (I mean, without all the fuss with database creation and issues), and secure enough for me.
If you are interested in the code, and don’t mind about making your own database, you can check my doc here. Feel free to give any feedback. Otherwise, just be patient, an easy-to-use version should be available in the next two weeks.
