Aso-san is an impressive volcano ... but not this morning ! |
And it doesn't look much better around us |
Some of this is fog, some is smoke from the volcano |
At least we can smell the gas (sulfur mainly) |
Right next to the crater, one can find some bunker (just in case of an small eruption) |
Not far from the crater, the moon-like land is black and powdery |
We start climbing towards Mt Nakadake |
We'll make it ! |
Yay ! we're now on top of Nakadake, 1506m high |
And now, on top of Takadake, 1592m high. |
Behind it are some alizaes called Miyamakirishima |
On our way to Higashimine look out |
Walking down. The wind has cleared most of the fog, now we can see how much of it was smoke from the volcano |
And we're back at Aso-san crater. Surpise ! we can see the inside ! (it didn't last though) |
Alert today is orange, and we could feel and smell the toxic gas, especially right next to the crater. |
Appreciating some of the surrounding landscape that was hard to see this morning |
